Nearly 50-100 construction
personnel who went missing following a glacier breach in Uttarakhand’s Tapovan
area on Sunday were a part of Rishi Ganga project. Search and rescue operations have been launched, reported PTI
quoting Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar.

“Our preliminary estimate is that 50-100
people who were working in and around the power project are missing,” the
state police chief told PTI.

Adding that the power project at Tapovan-Reni has been swept away completely, DGP Kumar said that at least two
bodies have been recovered while some who got injured in the incident have been rescued after state
disaster response forces reached the affected areas.

“The
situation is under control now. There is a dam at Srinagar and it has contained
the flow. The power project has taken the damage,” PTI quoted DGP Kumar as saying.

On being asked about the death and injury tolls, Kumar added that a clear picture can be given only by the evening as rescue operation is underway.
