DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, on Saturday, wrote to AYUSH minister Shripad Naik asking for an inquiry into an Ayush Ministry webinar, reported ANI.

In her letter, she informed Naik about an incident where the union secretary allegedly told non-Hindi speaking participants to leave the event if they did not understand Hindi and continued to communicate in Hindi. Kanimozhi has asked the Ministry of Ayush to take action against the secretary and “condemn discrimination on the basis of language.”

In the subject of her letter to Naik, Kanimozhi mentioned “Hindi Imposition”, condemning discrimination on the basis of language.

The DMK MP added, “Hindi and English are official languages of the Union and there are 22 languages listed as official languages in the eighth schedule to the constitution.”

Kanimozhi, in her letter, has asked minister Naik to order an immediate probe into the matter, urging action against all officials who acted in a discriminatory manner. She has also urged Naik to direct all officials to ensure that official events are conducted in English and whenever Hindi is used “corresponding translation in English be provided for the same.”

Earlier this month, Kanimozhi was at the center of another Hindi imposition debate. She had claimed that a CISF official had asked her if “she was an Indian” as she could not speak Hindi. The incident took place at the Chennai airport.
