Counting for bypolls held on 58 seats across 11 states has nearly concluded. The stakes were considered especially high for Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat. BJP has won all seats at Gujarat and almost swept Uttar Pradesh. All three states have a BJP government. According to exit polls, BJP candidates were slated to secure their wins at most of these seats. But the jury is still out at Madhya Pradesh. Elections were held for 28 seats, seven, and seven seats for MP, UP, and Gujarat. BJP is pegged to win 16-18 seats at MP, where the bypolls were necessitated by exit of Congress MLAs. The bypoll at MP is being seen as a prestige fight between Jyotiraditya Scindia and Kamal Nath, former partymates at Congress, now estranged after the former’s defection to BJP.
