Mulayam Singh Yadav, the founder of the Samajwadi Party and a former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, is still critically ill and is being treated with life-saving medications in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, according to the hospital, which was quoted by the news agency ANI.

According to Dr. Sanjeev Gupta, the medical director of Medanta Hospital, Mulayam Singh Yadav is receiving care from a multidisciplinary team of doctors.

“Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav ji is quite critical today and on life saving drugs, he is being treated in the ICU of Medanta Hospital, Gurgaon by a comprehensive team of specialists,” Samajwadi Party also tweeted.

Since August 22, Yadav has been receiving treatment in preparation for his routine medical exams and inspections. He was transferred to the ICU at Medanta Hospital last Sunday after his condition abruptly began to deteriorate.

The 82-year-old is also a former chief minister of UP.

Rajnath Singh, the union’s defence minister, met Yadav at the hospital on Friday. Manohar Lal Khattar, the chief minister of Haryana, and Lalu Prasad Yadav, the leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), also went to the hospital on Wednesday to see how Yadav was doing.

“Met with family, his son Akhilesh Yadav, wishing for his quick recovery. Doctors say there is an improvement but full recovery will take time,” Khattar said.

“His condition is improving, praying for his better health,” Lalu Prasad Yadav remarked as he left the hospital.

Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, had earlier asked Akhilesh Yadav about the condition of his father.

“Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on receiving information about the deteriorating health of Samajwadi Party Patron Mulayam Singh Yadav, had a telephonic conversation with his son and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav and inquired about his health. The Chief Minister has wished for the speedy recovery of Mulayam Singh Yadav,” the Bihar chief minister’s office said.

According to ANI sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Akhilesh earlier on Sunday and asked him how his father Mulayam Singh Yadav was doing.

One of the most well-known politicians in Uttar Pradesh, Yadav has three terms as the state’s chief minister and has also held the position of defence minister in the federal government.

Ten times as an MLA and seven times as a Lok Sabha MP, he has won elections.
