After a minor collision with the Mumbai CSMT Gadag Express, three coaches of the Dadar-Puducherry Chalukya Express derailed near Matunga station in Mumbai on Friday.

The Central Railway has announced that fast line traffic will be diverted to the slow corridor between Byculla and Matunga while the railway works on restoring the three derailed carriages of the Dadar-Puducherry Chalukya Express. The Central Railway’s chief public relations officer stated that the re-railing of coaches, OHE wire, and track fitness work is being carried out on a war footing and is anticipated to be completed by 12 noon.

“During this period, fast line Traffic will be diverted on slow corridor b/w Byculla and Matunga stations. Central Railway tweeted.

Travel on the neighbouring line was immediately suspended for safety reasons, however, traffic on the Up and Down slow lines was eventually resumed. The derailed train is on the fast track, while the suburban trains are on the slow track.

The Dadar-Puducherry Express and the CSMT-Gadag Express, which were involved in the accident, were cancelled, and passengers of the cancelled trains were instructed to seek refunds from any PRS centre within three days. As a result of the ongoing restoration work, several other trains have been cancelled, rescheduled, or short-circuited.

Among the cancelled trains are the 121110 Manmad-Mumbai Panchvati Express, the 11010 Pune-Mumbai Sinhagad Express, and the 11009 Mumbai-Pune Sinhagad Express, the 02102 Manmad-Mumbai Summer Special, the 02101 Mumbai-Manmad Summer Special, the 12124 Pune-Mumbai Deccan Queen, and the 12123 Mumbai-Pune Deccan Queen.

Central Railway chief public relations officer Shivaji Sutar previously stated that an investigation will be launched to determine the cause of the incident, adding that “it won’t be right to say whose fault was it for now.”

“The cause of the incident will surface post the probe.”

Railway Commissioner of Police Quaiser Khalid attended the scene and stated that all passengers had been evacuated and were safe.
