The teaser for the sixth season of the popular television show ‘Naagin’ was released early January. 

Ever since the announcement, rumours and speculations about the actors who could be cast as the lead in the franchise have been doing the rounds. 

Film and television producer Ekta Kapoor has, however, confirmed that no decision has been taken regarding the lead role for the supernatural series. In a post on Instagram, she wrote that the makers hadn’t even approached anyone yet, and asked for the viewers to come up with suggestions, “Not yet cast for #NAGIN6! Asking all u guys for ur suggestions! Just recovered from COVID but admist bad muscle spasm n stomach infection heard some names who r ‘ confirmed ‘! Arey bhai/behn no names r even approached or approved ! Ur suggestions guys!”

Some of the names being speculated include Rubina Dilaik, Ridhima Pandit, Debina Bonnerjee, Sonal Vengurlekar, and Tejasswi Prakash, who is currently a contestant in the reality show Bigg Boss.

Popular TV actor Niti Taylor pitched her own name when she commented, “Can we pitch for ourselves? Meeee.”

The sixth season of the successful franchise will be set in the context of the pandemic, the teaser showed. It will air on ColorsTV.

Meanwhile, BollywoodLife quoted a source to report that Kapoor had auditioned over 50 actors so far. “Ekta Kapoor has auditioned 50-55 actresses so far. From top names to newbies she has gone all out. But knowing her, it is obvious that the final name will be selected just days before it goes on the floors. The casting process got a little affected due to her coronavirus issue. As of now, too many names are doing the rounds. It is evident that some of the channel faves have also given auditions, but let us see!” the portal reported.

Mouni Roy played the role of the Naagin in the first and second seasons, followed by Adaa Khan, Surbhi Jyoti, Anita Hassanandani, Nia Sharma and Surbhi Chandna. 

Ekta, considered the ‘queen’ of television with some of the most popular shows under her producer banner ‘Balaji Telefilms’, had tested positive for COVID-19 two weeks ago. “Despite taking all precautions, I have tested Covid positive. I am fine and request everyone who has come in contact with me to please test themselves,” she wrote on Instagram.

She is currently working on movies such as Do Baaraa, Ek Villain Returns, and Freddy. She will also be collaborating with Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor on the actor’s debut production.
