There will no further talks between protesting farmer unions and the central government unless the former accepts the latest proposals to put the three farm laws on hold for up to two years, farmer leaders said on Friday.

The 11th round of talks between the centre and farmer unions were held at the national capital today, Rakesh Tikait, spokesperson for the Bharatiya Kisan Union confirming the government’s conditions.

“During the meeting, the government offered to put the implementation of the farm laws on hold for two years and said that the next round of meeting can take place only if farmer unions are ready to accept the proposal,” ANI quoted Tikait as saying following the nearly five-hour long meet.

He also stated that the farmers’ planned tractor rally will be held as scheduled on January 26.

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Railways Minister Piyush Goyal were part of the government delegation at the meeting.

Surjeet Singh Phul, State President of BKU Krantikari (Punjab), also confirmed that “no date for the next meeting has been fixed by the government”.

The latest talks, after ten previous rounds failing to break the deadlock over the three controversial farm laws, began around 1 pm at the Vigyan Bhawan and went on for nearly five hours.

However, farmer leaders allege that they were made to wait for over three and a half hours as the ministers left the meeting shortly before the lunch break.

“The minister made us wait for three and a half hours. This is an insult to farmers. When he came, he asked us to consider the government’s proposal and said that he is ending the process of meetings,” Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee leader SS Pandher said, adding that their peaceful protest will continue.
