Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued with his
ritual of wearing colourful turbans for Independence Day speeches, with saffron
and and off-white “safa (Rajasthani headgear)” to mark the nation’s
74th Independence Day. Dressed in his signature white half-sleeve kurta, PM
Modi completed the look by draping a white-and-orange scarf around his
shoulders. His beard, a little outgrown this time, didn’t go unnoticed
too.

The speech, delivered from the ramparts of the
historic Red Fort in Delhi, was his second since leading the BJP to a massive
win in national elections in April-May.

Designer Gautam Gupta says that he is certainly
one of the most stylish prime ministers of our country after Jawaharlal Nehru.

“He is a very particular man when it comes
to what he wears. He wears according to the occasion. On Independence Day,
he wore saffron color turban with stripes of white on one side, making it more
stylish. His beard though grown from his previous appearances but is properly
trimmed and looks neat,” Gupta told Opoyi.

“He certainly is a power dresser and is
particular about what he carries. He surely is one if the most stylish PM we
had. The other I could think of is Mr Nehru,” said Gupta, who also feels that
PM Modi’s effort of promoting Khadi has definitely given a new boost to the
hand spun fabric.

“He has really promoted handloom a lot not only by wearing it
but also mentioning it again and again. Khadi has got lot of attention because
of his efforts,” he said.

Right amalgamation of sustainability and style, says another
Delhi-based designer on PM Modi’s dressing style.

 “His turban and
growing beard look totally adds to his power dressing. He is someone who takes
away all the attention even when Mr Trump is standing next to him. That’s his
charisma,” the designer told Opoyi.

India’s first PM Jawaharlal Nehru was known for his rose
pinned to his jacket, also known as Nehru jacket. However when Modi took oath
as PM in 2014, his sartorial fashion choices also became the talk of the town.

From choosing a jodhpuri bandhej in red with a green trail for
his maiden I-Day speech in 2014 to his appearance in 2020, he didn’t fail to
impress the fashion veterans.
