The need of the hour is a full fledged vaccination drive and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a vaccination festival, ‘Tika Utsav’ starting from April 11 till April 14. The initiative will provide COVID-19 jabs to maximum number of eligible people. 

In his interaction with the chief ministers regarding the COVID situation, he called for the vaccination festival starting from Sunday, April 11 on the occasion of birth anniversaries of Jyotirao Phule and Dr. BR Ambedkar.

PM Modi said in the meeting, “We should vaccinate as many eligible people through a special campaign and decide on zero wastage. If there is zero wastage in four days during Tika Utsav, it will also increase our vaccination capacity.”

He added, “We’re going to begin ‘Tika Utsav’ today nationwide. I urge countrymen to abide by 4 things – assist those who need help getting inoculated, help people in COVID treatment, wear masks & motivate others & if someone tests positive, create micro-containment zone in the area.”

On Saturday, India became the fastest country in the world to administer 100 million doses, it achieved the feat in just 85 days, whereas United States took 89 days and China took 102 days.

India has recorded huge rise in COVID-19 cases in the past few weeks with case toll reaching as high as 1,52,879 cases in just 24 hours on Sunday.
