A family in
Punjab’s Muktsar came up with a unique way of extending support to farmers, who
have been protesting past 15 days along Delhi’s borders against the new farm
laws. The family, instead of accepting ‘shagun’ for a wedding, kept a donation
box to collect funds for farmers.
The family
appealed to the guests to donate money for farmers instead of offering gifts
and cash for shagun, reports ANI.

“This is our
struggle & we all must fight it together,” ANI quoted the groom Abhijeet
Singh, nephew of Sheikhu village sarpanch, Jasdeep Singh Brar, in Muktsar
district of Punjab as saying.
A video clip of
the reception has gone viral on social media; where the DJ is appealing to the
guests put the ‘shagun’ amount in the donation box.
Here is a video
shared Punjabi singer Kanwar Grewal on his Facebook page:
Punjab’s Finance
Minister, Manpreet Singh Badal, and Punjab Deputy Speaker Ajaib Singh Bhatti
also attended the wedding and donated for the cause, as per media reports.
While Abhijeet’s
wedding is an exemplar of how age old customs can be altered to support the
developmental cause, another groom in Haryana reached his wedding venue in a
tractor to express his support to farmers.
