Hitesh Dhingra, MD of The Man Company, lists down some beard trends

Stubble: What was once upon a time the sign of the man who has lost all hope, is making its way back as a fashion statement. And quite strongly so

The Goatee: Here’s something that seems to keep its position on the billboard forever. From college campuses to art exhibits – then Goatee has long been accessories for the rockstars, intellectuals, and those with a wayward, rebellious streak.

The Beard Stache: Falling somewhere in between, the beard Stache is a hybrid where a light stubble flanks a thick moustache. It has been rebuked as the fad and the “mullet” for beards, but it is here to stay.

The Short Beard: Think Indiana Jones’ father, in the movies. This is the man who can waltz through the banquets and conference hall with equal elan, commanding respect. Neat and thick – just the kind best suited for decision-makers

Full Beard: The long months of working from home is going to continue. And for those who have crossed the on-the-fence length, should definitely ride the winter out with their mane long and proud

Niraalee Shah, CEO India, The British School of Etiquette India, says that “facial hair changes the shape of a man’s face and completely modifies the way he looks like, so give up on the traditional shape that you used to wear and give a try to the best beard styles in 2020.”

She says that 2020 is all about a sharper more trimmed look and suggests trends like the Russian beard and Salt and Pepper.

The Russian beard: This is the dialed-down, neater, and overall less bohemian version of the full beard. While the short beard is a more versatile, understated, and office-friendly alternative, it suits many roles of the modern man. We think this trend is great simply because it doesn’t need much maintenance. The key is to keep it tidy, but not overly preened. The perfect strike of balance between masculinity and fun.

Faded beard with an undercut: Faded beard styles are versatile. The fade is one of the most common grooming techniques from a gentleman’s hairdressing manual. The rule is simple – have an unbroken flow from your sidelocks towards your chin with an incremental increase in length and thickness. It’s easy to see that this trend isn’t for everybody – you’ll need a thick beard growth to pull this off, else your beard will appear patchy.

Salt & pepper: The best salt & pepper beards are the ones that come up naturally. The best way, therefore, is to let nature take its course and let your beard grow grey naturally. Battling greys isn’t the answer, you can now embrace them. This is 2019’s hottest beard trend yet. Ensure that you trim the edges well, lest the salt and pepper look seem messy.

Dhingra further adds that for a neat and edgy look, it is important that you trim it

“after all, nothing is more unflattering than an unkempt and ungroomed beard,” he said.

Some of the grooming tips include combing your beard that will not only promote hair growth but will also make your beard look neat.

“Use a beard wax to give your beard a sleek and clean look. Also, use a caffeine-based beard serum If you are growing your beard it will not only boost the beard growth but will also keep the frizziness at bay,” he said

So, what is your preference and why?
