United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday expressed his condolences to the family of former Indian president Pranab Mukherjee, who died on Monday. He underwent a brain surgery and was on ventilator at Delhi’s Army hospital since August 10. Prior to his surgery, the former president has tweeted that he tested positive for coronavirus.

Taking to Twitter, Trump wrote, “I was saddened to learn of the passing of India’s former President, Pranab Mukherjee. I send my condolences to his family and the people of India as they grieve the loss of a great leader.”

Former President Pranab Mukherjee was cremated at the Lodhi Crematorium on Tuesday. His last rite was performed by his son Abhijit Mukherjee.

The government has announced national mourning for seven days, from August 31 to September 6.
