Normal service resumed for Australian batting stalwart Steve Smith as he roared back to form with his 27th Test ton during the ongoing third Test against India in Sydney on Friday.

Smith, who recorded scores of 1, 1*, 0 and 8 in his last four innings over the first half of the series, looked confident from the onset.

Coming in to bat with Australia at 106/2, Smith forged an impressive, 100-run stand with understudy Marnus Labuschagne (91) to steer Australia towards an imposing first-innings total.

Having gone the entirety of 2020 without recording a Test ton, Smith struck 13 boundaries over 201 deliveries to bring up the landmark, the first three-figure score by an Australian in the ongoing series.

This was his first century at home since an unbeaten 102 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in the 2017 Ashes series.

His innings propelled the hosts to a total of 292 as wickets continued falling around him in regular intervals.
