India will celebrate its 75th Independence Day with much pomp and show. It was on this day that India got Independence from British rule as the national struggle culminated with the lowering of the Union Jack flag and the unfurling of the tricolour. The Legend of Bhagat Singh is a 2002 Bollywood film directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. The movie is about Bhagat Singh, who is a freedom fighter who fought for India’s independence with his members of the Hindustan Republic Association. The movie features Ajay Devgan, Sushant Singh, D. Santosh and Akhilendra Mishra.
Raj Babbar, Farida Jalal and Amrita Rao acted in supporting roles. The film revolves around his life until the day he was hanged to death on March 23, 1931.
LOC: Kargil
Directed by JP Dutta, this movie is based on the Kargil War fought between India and Pakistan. The film has an ensemble cast and music composed by Aadesh Shrivastava and Anu Malik.
The film shows the Indian Army’s successful Operation Vijay that was launched in May 1999.
Gandhi
Ben Kingsley plays Gandhi in this 1982 period biographical film based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. The movie was directed and produced by Richard Attenborough from a screenplay written by John Briley. The film entails Gandhi’s life from a defining moment in 1893. Gandhi was released in India on November 30, 1982, in the United Kingdom on December 3, and in the United States on December 8.
Sarfarosh
Sarfarosh is a 1999 action drama film written, produced and directed by John Matthew Matthan. It stars Aamir Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Sonali Bendre and Mukesh Rishi. The film was released just before the Kargil conflict. The film won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Film.
Viceroy’s House
Gurinder Chadha-directed Viceroy’s House is a 2017 British-Indian fictional historical drama film. The film stars Hugh Bonneville, Gillian Anderson, Manish Dayal, Huma Qureshi, and Michael Gambon.
This movie depicts the life of Lord Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of India. He is in charge of overseeing the dissolution of the British Raj and the establishment of an independent Indian nation.
