Remember the night of December 31 when we were desperately praying for 2020, an atrocious year, to end? Then 2021 came and boom! It hit us, it feels like Deja Vu, only with an upgrade. How you ask? In just 9 days, the world has witnessed humans refusing to believe in the presence of a virus to politicians down rightly rejecting the election results, and trust us, this is not even the worst part.
Here are 5 incidents that are mostly enough to convince us that maybe we are stuck in a time loop.
US Capitol violence
In 2021, people will accept facts, be pragmatic, practice empathy, right? No. In fact, this year saw the biggest attack on democracy, reportedly incited by its very own leader.
On January 6, an armed pro-Trump mob violently broke into the US Capitol in the presence of the country’s legislators. An attack that resulted in five casualties and dubbed as “an unprecedented assault” by the President-elect Joe Biden.
Maharashtra fire mishap
In a gut-wrenching tragedy reported from Maharashtra’s Bhandara district hospital, at least 10 babies were killed after a fire broke out at the Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of a hospital at around 2 in the morning of January 9.
According to a doctor, the cause of the fire is yet not known but could have been the result of an electrical short circuit.
King of Indian prints, Satya Paul, died
Satya Paul, the mind behind the famous fashion brand known for its indigenous prints and elegant sarees, passed away on January 6.
Born on February 2, 1942, he first made his mark in the fashion industry with the 1980 launch of L’Affaire, the first sari boutique in the country. After five years, he came up with his own label by the name of ‘SATYA’.
Budaun rape case
On January 3, a 50-year-old woman in the Budaun district of Uttar Pradesh was brutally assaulted, gang-raped and murdered by a temple priest.
The incident came to light on Sunday night when the priest and his two accomplices took the 50-year-old victim’s body to her home, saying they found the corpse in a dry well in the temple premises
The accused has been arrested and was taken to a court by the police and later sent to judicial custody till January 18.
Boeing 737-500 crash
On January 9, an Indonesian flight reportedly crashed minutes after take-off from Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta.
According to local media, the debris of a Sriwijaya Air Boeing 737-500 operating flight SJ182 from Jakarta to Pontianak was recovered by the rescue team in the ocean.
Radar contact with the Boeing 737 was lost about four minutes after departure and ADS-B flight tracking services showed the aircraft making a rapid descend. Although no source has released the number of casualties, the aircraft carried six crew members and 56 passengers on board
