Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhar was trolled for congratulating the women’s hockey team instead of the men’s after the latter won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Farhan’s tweet, on Thursday, was deleted within minutes but the screenshot has gone viral. 

“Go girls!! So proud of #TeamIndia for showing exemplary fighting spirit and bringing in our 4th medal. Super stuff,” Farhan tweeted. 

The ‘Rock On’ actor then posted another tweet that read, “So proud of #teamIndia for showing exemplary fighting spirit and bringing in our 4th medal .. super stuff. #Tokyo2020 #Hockey.”

However, the damage was done. Twitter users trolled Farhan. 

“Sir big fan ! But this clearly shows you don’t follow anything and just tweet what you are asked to tweet or just be in limelight ! Totally you had no idea who was playing whom . Even I din but atleast I never tweeted about it,” a Twitter user commented.

“Like Ajju Bhai like Toofan, his tweets are also horrible. These celebrities just want to be in the news. Very less content between their ears. Today was mens’ hockey bronze medal. For the women, it’s tomorrow,” another one said. 

India defeated Germany in the bronze medal playoff on Thursday to win their first hockey medal in 41 years. The eight-time gold-winners saw goals from Simranjeet, Hardik Singh, Harmanpreet Singh and Rupinder Pal Singh lead them to a stunning comeback. 

The Indian women’s hockey team already surpassed all expectations when they stunned three-time champions Australia 1-0 in the Olympic quarterfinals. They face Great Britain in the semi-final match to create history. By half-time India were leading the scoreline 3-2. 

Other events on Day 14 saw Indian wrestler Ravi Dahiya bag a silver medal in the freestyle 57kg category. Though he lost 4-7 to reigning world champion Zavur Uguev, he became the second Indian wrestler to bag a silver medal at the event.

Vinesh Phogat lost in the quarter-finals to Vanesa Kaladzinskaya of Belarus in the 53kg women’s freestyle wrestling event. Deepak Punia lost the bronze medal to San Marino’s Nazem Myles Amine in the men’s freestyle 86kg event.
