The Indian railways on Sunday said that passengers booking tickets will be required to fill in their own phone numbers as their contact info even if booking via agents or through another person’s account.

This is to ensure that the contact details of the passenger get properly registered in the PRS (Passenger Reservation System), enabling them to accurately receive information about revision/changes in train schedules.

“All the passengers, therefore, are requested to register their own mobile number only as the sole contact number so that they can get SMS sent by Railways regarding any change in time schedule of the trains or any other information communicated by Railways for the benefit of the passengers,” reportedly read the Railways statement.
