The list of reserved seats for the Uttar Pradesh gram panchayat elections is set to be released on Tuesday. The list will include all posts and
will be released by the District Magistrate. The final list, after clearing out all the objections, is scheduled
for publishing around March 10, according to reports.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had earlier announced a rotational
system to be followed in the elections. Seats reserved for either Scheduled
Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), or Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the previous
election would not be reserved for the same category in the current one.

Here’s all you need to know about the panchayat elections in Uttar
Pradesh:

The total number of representatives to be elected
in the polls, which are scheduled to get underway on April 30, are numbered at
57,207. The Allahabad High Court in February had asked the election commission
in Uttar Pradesh to ensure that the election is held by May.

The idea of a rotational reservation which was brought
forward by Uttar Pradesh CM Adityanath, focuses on status of reservation in
each seat on the basis of its population.

Uttar Pradesh presently has 826 Vikas khands
(development blocks) and 58,194 gram sabhas. There exist 7,31,813 wards in gram
sabhas, 75,855 wards in kshetra panchayats and 30,501 wards in zila panchayats.

“Out of total gram panchayat seats, 330 will
be reserved for STs, 12,045 for SCs and 15,712 for OBCs. This reservation is on
the basis of percentage of their population,” Panchayati Raj additional
chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

The tenure of the incumbent village panchayat
ended on December 25, 2020.
