Uttar Pradesh Police on Friday filed its detailed
reply before the Supreme Court in connection with the deaths of gangster Vikas
Dubey and his associates, stating that the “encounters” were correct
and can’t be termed fake.

Dubey, a wanted
criminal, was shot dead last Friday by the police, who said he was trying to
flee after the car carrying him from Ujjain overturned on an isolated stretch
of the highway on the outskirts of the city.

Dubey
was wanted in connection with the ambush in Kanpur’s Bikru village past
midnight on July 2, killing eight policemen who had come to arrest him.

Soon
after Dubey’s killing, several questions were raised by several people over the
course of events which led to his encounter, including Congress general
secretary Priyanka Gandhi, who also demanded a CBI probe into the case. Gandhi claimed
that the Uttar Pradesh government has completely failed in their investigation
in the grave crime committed in Kanpur, she further added, “In spite of
the heightened security, Dubey reached Ujjain. This not only exposes the claims
on the security, but also hints at conspiracy.”

Even former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister questioned
the criminal’s encounter, stating why was Dubey killed and who was he trying to
protect?  “Actually, the car didn’t overturn; in fact it’s a way of
protecting the state government from being overturned, before the spilling of
beans,” Yadav said.
