The Delhi Capitals will begin the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against the Chennai Super Kings. They will be led by young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant, who was appointed skipper after Shreyas Iyer was ruled out with a shoulder injury.

The franchise was founded in 2008 as the Delhi Darevils and are jointly-owned by the GMR Group and the JSW Group. The JSW Group, of which Parth Jindal is a senior director, paid Rs 550 crore for 50% partnership in the franchise in 2018.

The deal sees both firms swap lead management roles in the franchise every two years. IPL 2020 was the final year of JSW Group’s cycle as lead managers, with the GMR Group taking over for IPL 2021 and 2022.
