Virat Kohli, former India captain, will be seen in action when the Men in Blue take on Australia in a three-match T20I series starting Tuesday. Ahead of the first game in Mohali, the 33-year-old, in a Twitter video, spoke about the ‘lappa shot’.
Lappa, which is a wild swing of the bat, is a term generally used in Delhi’s street cricket. Kohli, who is based out of the Indian capital city, burst into laughter when asked to explain the shot. He, in the video shared on the official Twitter handle of PUMA Cricket, further recollected some funny moments from his street cricket days while describing the meaning of the slang.

The video is a part of the Do You Know Your Cricket Slang series. Last week, Kohli was seen explaining another cricket slang – batta, which means a chucker.
“Lappa is a slog over mid-wicket. A guy who doesn’t probably know how to bat well knows only one shot which is lappa,” Kohli said.

“We have played a lot like this. And there were a lot of players who knew only this shot, just a slog over mid-wicket. It would be very frustrating for me as well as the team to see the batter getting out playing that shot. It is fine if you get out while playing proper cricketing shots.”

Kohli recently scored his 71st international century. Opening the innings against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup, he remained unbeaten on 122 off just 61 balls.
“Rahul bhai and I have had a chat that we will have to make Virat open in some of the games because he is our third opener. In the last match we saw what he did (as opener) and we are obviously happy about that,” Rohit said referring to Kohli’s hundred against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup earlier this month.
