Aruna Bhatia was one of the film producers in Bollywood who helmed some really big hits. Also, mother of bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, Aruna Bhatia produced a roster of popular films including, Naam Shabana, Rustom, Singh Is Kinng, Patiala House, OMG – Oh My God,  Holiday: A Soldier is Never Off Duty, Airlift, Toilet -Ek Prem Katha, Chumbak and Mission Mangal among others.

She, alongside Vikram Malhotra, had also been producing the upcoming film Ram Setu, starring Akshay Kumar, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Jacqueline Fernandez. Another one with her son taking action up a notch is the upcoming action-thriller Sooryavanshi. 

She co-founded Hari Om Production with Akshay Kumar and his wife Twinkle Khanna. The name of the production house is dedicated to Aruna Bhatia’s late husband Hari Om. Born in Amritsar, Punjab, she did her schooling from there. The late film producer had two children, Akshay Kumar and daughter Alka Bhatia. 

The producer passed away on September 8. She had recently fallen ill and was admitted in the ICU in Mumbai’s Hiranandani Hospital. Following the news of her sickness, Akshay Kumar rushed to India from the UK. On Tuesday, Akshay had shared an update regarding her health and thanked the well-wishers, writing, “Touched beyond words at your concern for my mom’s health. This is a very tough hour for me and my family. Every single prayer of yours would greatly help.”

However, she succumbed to her illness on Wednesday.

The actor took to twitter to share the news penning a heartfelt note in her remembrance. He tweeted, “She was my core. And today I feel an unbearable pain at the very core of my existence. My maa Smt Aruna Bhatia peacefully left this world today morning and got reunited with my dad in the other world. I respect your prayers as I and my family go through this period. Om Shanti.”
