Rajiv Gandhi is largely credited with improving India’s relationship with the USA which had been at an all-time low during the reign of his mother. He also oversaw the country’s telecom revolution, and his penchant for western technology was reflected in the policies he adopted that, in a way, heralded the birth of a far more modernised India.
