Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma recently posted a clip of her exercising on a treadmill. Currently in her last trimester of pregnancy, the clip garnered awe from netizens, who praised her effort to stay fit.

According to health experts, women who exercise during pregnancy enjoy many health benefits. Some of these benefits include improved cardiovascular fitness, stable blood pressure, better mood, and controlled weight. Health experts recommend low-to-moderate intensity exercise during pregnancy, especially the third (and last) trimester.

During the third semester specifically, strenuous physical activity such as jumping, hopping, skipping and bouncing should be avoided.

When it comes to staying fit during the last trimester of one’s pregnancy, there are several things that one can do. Physical activity that can be indulge in include:

1. Walking and jogging

Light jogs and regular walks are always recommended. The fresh air helps clear the mind, while movement helps alleviate bloats.

2. Swimming and aqua aerobics

Swimming and aqua aerobics can be therapeutic for women, who have aches and pains. Water takes the pressure off tired legs and backs and helps prevent overheating.

3. Yoga, Pilates, and other low-impact exercises

Yoga can help ease anxiety, while Pilates target all major muscles and joints in the body, strengthening them.

4. Bodyweight and toning moves

Squats, pushups and wall planks can be safely done, while light weights should be used for arm work.
