You must have heard that good sleep is co-related to healthy skin, but what if we tell you that it’s doing the opposite? You read that right!

Your sleeping position can take a toll on the skin and can cause wrinkles and acne. The signs can be flatter cheek only on one side, puffy eyes, dullness, and of course, acne.

Here’s how your sleeping position has an impact on your skin:

  • Sleeping on your back is a better option than sleeping sideways, or on the stomach. When you sleep sideways or on the stomach, your face is pushed deeper into the pillow and if the cover has not been washed for a while, the dirt and bacteria may cause acne and pimples. You can either change your preferred sleeping posture or wash the pillow cover regularly.
  • Sleeping on your stomach must be avoided. At night, the skin cells get repaired and the skin needs to breathe. This posture forces the face against the pillow, and staying that way for a good seven or eight hours is a big no-no. It may lead to lines and wrinkles.
  • Sleeping on your back is said to be the ideal position – it does not apply any kind of pressure on the face. It allows the skin to breathe and repair on its own.
