Pushpak Sen of Kolkata wore a black saree with a silver border and a white turtleneck sweater to go with it. Sen turned heads when posing with a black long-umbrella, wearing it with a grey checkered blazer and white sneakers.

“Being a man in a saree would take me nowhere they said,” Sen wrote in his caption sharing the stunning images. “Guess who’s walking in it on the streets of one of the major fashion capitals of the world?” he added.

The images were taken while Sen was on a day trip to Milan with pals, according to Sen, who is presently pursuing a master’s degree in one of the world’s most prestigious fashion colleges in Florence. The 26-year-old told indianexpress.com that he has made it a point to wear a saree whenever he can since relocating to Italy, even to his college. “I now wear a saree more often than earlier.”

Sen described the photoshoot as “fun” and stated it was not planned. He explained his sartorial decision, saying, “I couldn’t pass this opportunity to visit one of world’s major fashion hubs and not wear a saree. I had to take my culture there and being an Indian, I had to represent it in my own way.”

He enjoys experimenting with his style and various make-up looks online, and he claims that spreading saree fashion in European cities has been really fulfilling. He’s been wearing traditional and handloom weaves from Barcelona to Florence, pushing the story of androgynous dressing forward. “My reason to come here where I am was not to blend in but to REPRESENT my roots, my clan, my community,” He wrote on Instagram.
