Water treatment

1- Soak the earthen pot for eight to ten hours before using it. Earthen pots are porous so soaking them in water makes the moisture seep in. This facilitates steaming and retains the heat within the pot while cooking so that food is not left half-cooked. 

2- Take out the pot and place it on heat to season it. Add some water and let it come to a boil. This helps in the deep cleansing of the pot as well.

3- Discard the water. The earthen pot is now seasoned and ready to be used.

Wheat flour treatment

1- This method requires you to add some whole wheat flour into the pot and rub it well on all sides. Rubbing the flour helps get rid of loose mud.

2- Dust off the flour and clean it well with a cloth

3- Now place the pot on flame. Let it heat till the flour turns black.

4- Wipe the pot clean with a muslin cloth.

5- Switch off the heat and allow the pot to cool completely. The pot is now ready to be used.
