As we say that our house is a reflection of who we are, so why not add some festive vibe to your beautiful abode just like we do with our looks. In a time like COVID-19 when the majority of the population wants to stay indoors, one can easily look at the old items placed at some corner of your house and give it a new twist.

“For me, the trend is all about sustainability, from environmentally-friendly furniture to natural fiber rugs,” said designer Vasundhara Kumar, founder of home décor brand Eartthry that recreates and redesign handicrafts into unique homeware items.

“Everything this year is about protecting the environment and recycling our materials. We are seeing a huge comeback in brass items, in both styles – modern clean aesthetics as well as ornate and embellished. The boho-chic vibe is still very much present, rattan baskets, fringed cushions, and natural jute rugs are very much in this season,” she added.

Giving more insight on the home décor trends for this season, she says “that this season is all about upcycling items already present in our home.”

“Sustainability is a key factor here, my tip would be to create a festive aura using a mix of rich handcrafted textiles, cushions, fresh florals, and top it off with some well-placed mirrors. I would also highly recommend some lovely scented urli candles in a fresh mogra and tuberose fragrance to enhance your home. Another one of my personal favourites, is the upcycled wine bottles which when filled with fairy lights add a whole new dimension to home décor,” she said.

Kumar says that “audience is done with the whole ‘one-stop-shop’ places for decorating their homes.”

“… it has now become about eclectic travel pieces which narrate a story of who they are. It’s about mixing the new with the old, like scratches on a live-edge wooden table makes them feel like they are a part of that piece and thus are more at ease in their surroundings,” she said.

Interior Designer Punam Kalra, who is also the Creative Director of I’m The Centre for Applied Arts, says that “a play of minimal maximalism with contrasting yet harmonious forms and a touch of metallic shades add a raw and intimate textural feel to the décor.”

“ The Metallic Romance Living Room Collection contrasts a plush, blush-toned velvet sofa set with statement neo-modern chairs in burnt red and a nude micro pleated sofa. Assorted cushions in velvet, copper, and antique gold adds a touch of glamour and snugness to the room,” she said.

For her, designs emphasizing on striking a delicate balance of intriguing textures, exclusive color combinations, and imaginative forms hold an exquisite artistic flair while looking minimal and modern.

“ A play of bright colors, rich deep tones, and subtle neutral shades, complemented with chic patterns like interpreted geometric linework, symbolic motifs, and mixed futuristic art movements, adds warmth and grace to the home,” she said.
