‘Eggs Halifax’, a variant of the popular brunch dish Eggs Benedict, has recently been doing the rounds on the Internet. It even has its own thread on the social news aggregator Reddit, started by a worker who was asked by one of his guests to serve him that dish.

‘Eggs Benedict’ consists of two halves of an English muffin, each topped with Canadian bacon, a poached egg, and hollandaise sauce, and popularised in New York.

Originally coined by the restaurant Elle’s Bistro in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, the dish ‘Eggs Halifax’ replaces the traditional layer of ham in an Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon.

Users on Reddit have been scouring the Internet to find the exact recipe, but only a few leads have been found.

For instance, a review on TripAdvisor describes the dish as ‘eggs on a homemade biscuit covered in seafood chowder’.

Another Reddit user was able to find the menu of a restaurant in Long Beach, New York which serves the dish. The Laurel Diner Restaurant describes ‘Eggs Halifax’ as ‘poached eggs and Nova Scotia lox (brined salmon) on an English muffin topped with Hollandaise sauce and served with potatoes’.

The thread on Reddit continues to grow everyday, with more and more users adding their interpretation to which dish (and recipe) the phrase refers to.
