A man’s inventive hack for a comfortable train journey earned him and ‘desi jugaad’, a term used in India for ingenious ways of finding quick-fix but effective solutions to day-to-day problems, praise on the Internet. In a video that has gone viral on social media, the man is seen balancing himself on a blanket in the aisle of a train compartment. Much to the bemusement of several seated passengers, he then turns the blanket tied to two ends of the cabin into a hammock.

The clip was shared on Instagram by a meme page named ‘memes.bks’, with the caption, “U can’t match with Indian mind”.

Several users wrote speculated that the man had turned to the innovative idea after he could not find a seat in the compartment.  The man can be seen sleeping comfortably on the blanket as he extends his legs over the area where the luggage is kept.

Others said they themselves had often used or seen other people resort to such ‘jugaads’ in packed trains.  “Nothing new…seen this multiple times, even in a single coach I have seen more than 10 people doing it (infront of evey seat block),” read one comment.

The Indian Railways could soon convert general coaches in long distance trains into AC compartments, which will have seating arrangements for 100-120 passengers, to provide a comfortable journey to passengers at reduced fares, according to a Times of India report.
