Brock Purdy fumbles and is out with elbow injury vs San Francisco 49ers, Josh Johnson replaces the quarterback in NFC Championship game. This prompted veteran Josh Johnson to come off the bench with his team in a 7-0 hole in the first quarter of the match against the Eagles on Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia.

Purdy was 7-0 as a starter including in the playoffs. This was his first lost fumble, caused by Haason Reddick. After the season-ending injury to starter Trey Lance, the long-term injury to Jimmy Garoppolo, and now the injury to the rookie Purdy, Johnson is the 49ers’ fourth-string quarterback, added during the season. The 49ers’ athletic trainers looked at Purdy on the sideline. He then tried to come back in the game but came back out before the series began.

Johnson, 36, entered the NFL as a fifth-round draft pick and has been a member of 14 different NFL organizations and teams in the now-defunct Alliance of American Football and the XFL. He was making his playoff debut. He has appeared in two games this season for the 49ers, completing one of two passes for 10 yards.

Purdy’s career has been remarkable so far, as he started out as a rookie seventh-round draft pick taking over the starting job due to injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo and helping the 49ers to an NFC championship game. However, now his team has to go on without him.

Purdy’s return is being seen as questionable he was headed to the locked room for further testing. It is being deemed that he sustained an elbow injury. San Francisco ran the ball twice, leading to a quick three-and-out.

Fans kept their eyes glued on the sideline to see if Purdy can get back into this game with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.
