After a disastrous defeat at the hands of Dallas Cowboys in the Wildcard round, Tampa Bay Buccaneers is reportedly looking to fire the teams offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich. Dov Kleiman says that the team wanted to do so the bye week but then insisted on holding onto him as their coach.

“The Bucs offense generated 386 yards against Dallas, but only ran the ball for 52 yards as Tampa Bay fell behind early and trailed 18-0 at halftime,” Scott Reynolds of the Pewter report said, “More importantly, the Bucs offense produced only 14 points after trailing Dallas, 24-0 in the third quarter. Tampa Bay won the NFC South despite averaging just 18.4 points per game in the regular season, which was the lowest in the division.”

Leftwich was born in Washington, D.C. in January 1980. Initially starting as a quarterback for Howard D. Woodson High School, Leftwich played college football at Marshall University, where he won MAC Offensive Player of the Year twice and the Motor City Bowl MVP in 2000. 

Leftwich was drafted #7 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2003 NFL Draft, and he went on to play for the Jaguars from 2003 to 2006, then for the Atlanta Falcons in 2007, Pittsburgh Steelers in 2008, Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2009, and Pittsburgh Steelers again from 2010 to 2012. He ended up winning the Super Bowl championship with the Steelers as a backup quarterback. 

He became the quarterbacks’ coach for the Arizona Cardinals in 2017 after he became an intern in 2016. He left the Cardinals and signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for $17 million in 2019.
