The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday confirmed Rohit Sharma as India‘s captain for the upcoming T20I home series against New Zealand, with KL Rahul named as the vice-captain.

Apart from leading Mumbai Indians to a record five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles, Rohit has won multiple titles as Indian skipper – including Asia Cup and the Nidahas Trophy.
Former T20I skipper Virat Kohli is among a number of high-profile players who have been rested for the series. Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur have also been given a break.
Kohli had announced before the ongoing T20 World Cup that he will step down from captaincy in the shortest format after the showpiece event. The 33-year-old’s last assignment was against Namibia in India’s final Super 12 Group 2 clash, which India won by eight wickets to end a disappointing campaign on a high.
The Men in Blue failed to make the semi-finals of the World Cup after consecutive losses against Pakistan and New Zealand in their first two games.

For the series against the Kiwis, a number of top-performers in the IPL have earned their maiden call-ups to the Indian squad. These include Chennai Super Kings opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer Harshal Patel, Delhi Captials pacer Avesh Khan and Kolkata Knight Riders opener Venkatesh Iyer.
India will host New Zealand for three T20Is and two Test matches. The T20I matches are to be held in Jaipur (November 17), Ranchi (November 19) and Kolkata (November 21). The two Tests will be hosted in Kanpur, from November 25-29 and Mumbai, from December 3-7.
