The Indianapolis Colts announced on Wednesday that Anthony Richardson would be out of commission for at least four games due to his designation for injured reserve. During the second quarter of Sunday’s victory over the Tennessee Titans, the quarterback suffered an AC joint injury to his right shoulder.

Richardson’s recuperation time might take four to eight weeks, depending on how much rehabilitation is needed or whether surgery is necessary for his shoulder, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Richardson’s injury will keep him out of the lineup for at least four weeks, which includes games against the Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, and New Orleans Saints. He might make his comeback as early as Week 10 when the Colts travel to Frankfurt, Germany to play the New England Patriots.

Richardson has completed 59.5% of his throws for 577 yards of passing this season, and he has combined for seven touchdowns through passing and rushing.

With Richardson out of the picture, Gardner Minshew will start as quarterback for Sunday’s game against Jacksonville. Following Richardson’s departure from the last contest, the seasoned quarterback gained 155 yards on 11 of 14 passes.

The Colts’ head coach, Shane Steichen, said on Monday, “It’s hard when a guy gets hurt like Richardson has.” It’s difficult, because it’s clear that he is an extremely skilled player. However, we also have a great deal of confidence in Gardner to take over and carry on as usual.”

The Colts have added quarterback Kellen Mond to their practice squad, with Sam Ehlinger taking over as the backup, with Richardson on injured reserve and Minshew starting.

Richardson’s injury-plagued debut campaign has been disappointing. Due to a knee injury, he initially left the season opener in the fourth quarter. He had a concussion the following week, which prevented him from playing in their Week 3 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. Minshew assumed the reigns in his place, going 27 of 44 for 227 yards and one touchdown pass against Baltimore.
