While most people celebrated India’s victory in the final Test against Australia with congratulatory wishes and funny memes, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is popular for his unmatched vocabulary, trolled Aussies in his own trademark style by sharing  ‘word of the day’ on Twitter.

He chose “epicaricacy” as the word to poke fun at the Australian team. It refers to the act of rejoicing at or deriving pleasure from the misfortunes of others.

“I am not the gloating kind but there’s a special pleasure in reading these comments today… When everything else has been said, what remains but “wow”?!” he tweeted sharing snapshots of the mocking comments made by former Australian cricketers Michael Clarke, Ricky Ponting and Mark Waugh, among others.

In a separate tweet, Tharoor took a jibe at former Australian skipper Michael Clarke again, who had said India could celebrate for a year if they beat Australia without Virat Kohli.

“Yes, Michael Clarke is right — let’s celebrate for a year… starting with hammering the English from next month!” he tweeted.

Notably, in the absence of big players, India found new stars such as Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj and Rishabh Pant among others who surprised the Aussies with their never-say-die spirit.

On Tuesday, India pulled off a record run-chase in a thrilling final session to breach the Gabba fortress and hand Australia a three-wicket defeat to clinch the four-match Test series 2-1.
