Cristiano Ronaldo is not having a good season at Manchester United thus far. The Portuguese superstar was sidelined from the playing XI once again by Erik ten Hag for their match against Tottenham Hotspur. Ronaldo, who watched the match from the benches as his compatriot Bruno Fernandes guided the Red Devils to a 2-0 win, walked off into the dressing room while the match was still going on. This has led to a section of fans criticising the 37-year-old for his apparent lack of professionalism.

One user on Twitter wrote, “Ronaldo walking down the tunnel before game ends. What a team player he is. I’m so sick of his selfish attitude, he acts like a spoilt brat when he doesn’t get what he wants.”

Another user said that Ronaldo was often seen “sulking on the bench” during the match, adding that the Portugal captain always has to “make everything about him”.

However, some other fans have stood by the legendary striker’s side, saying that he should not be subject to such criticism considering the fact that he was Man United’s best player last season. The Manchester side had won a number of matches in the 2021-22 season thanks to CR7’s last-minute strikes. It was Ronaldo who scored a hattrick and saved United when they met Spurs last season for the two sides’ second Premier League clash.

The match was an intense affair between two well-balanced sides. United clinched the victory thanks to two goals by Fred and Fernandes. However, the stats show that it was hardly an easy victory for the Erik ten Hag-managed side.

United had 52% possession of the ball while Spurs had 48%. In response to the Red Devils’ 577 completed passes, the North London side managed 522. The Fernandes-led side, however, dominated when it came to shots on target (10), of which Spurs managed only two.
