The 22nd Commonwealth Games will kick off on July 28. The opening ceremony of CWG 2022 would take place in Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium. More than 5,000 players from 72 countries will march on Alexander Stadium with their flags on the opening day. The multi-sport global event will take place from July 28 to August 8.

The opening ceremony of Commonwealth Games 2022 has a long list of star performers. England’s famous new wave band Duran Duran will be performing at the event. Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, and Roger Taylor will be representing Duran Duran at the event. Black Sabbath is also on the list of performing bands.

Mezzo-soprano and Samantha Oxborough will perform the national anthem (Which country’s?) to flag the Games. City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Alpesh Chauhan will be providing the tune to Oxborough’s performance. There will also be a choir performance at the opening ceremony. The choir of 700 singers will be led by Carol Pemberton. Other musicians such as Lekan Babalola, Ranjana Ghatak, and Jude Rees will also be part of the grand event.

The CWG 2022 opening ceremony will begin on Thursday, July 28 at 7pm local time, 11:30pm IST. The ceremony will be approximately 4 hours long. In India, Sony Sports Network will telecast this multi-sport event. The online streaming of the tournament will be available on the Sony LIV app on a subscription basis.
The Games will have a 215-player strong contingent from India. India is one of the top 5 contenders for medals this year. India secured 68 medals in the last Commonwealth Games.

Neeraj Chopra has been ruled out of Commonwealth Games 2022 due to a groin injury. Two-time Olympic gold medalist PV Sindhu has been announced to be India’s flagbearer at the opening ceremony. She led the Indian contingents at the opening ceremony of Commonwealth Games 2018 as well.
