Cooper Rush made his third career start at the MetLife Stadium on Monday. Playing against the New York Giants, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback forgot to inform his running back Ezekiel Elliot about a change of play. The running back was then left confused. 

Rush, who is a regular starter as Dak Prescott‘s backup, changed the play with 3:36 remaining in the first quarter. Elliot was placed behind QB Rush and tried to talk to him before the play started but Rush did not respond to him. He then took the ball from the QB to run towards the endzone but was caught by the Giants Defense.

Rush’s intended pass according to the play was for kicker KaVontae Turpin who placed himself at the wide receiver position at the far left end of the pitch with only Giants cornerback Fabian Moreau guarding him.

Dallas led 6-3 with 4:55 minutes left in the second quarter.

ESPN2’s Manningcast consisting of former Super Bowl-winning brothers Peyton and Eli Manning were seen discussing the play.

Peyton Manning said, ” You gotta tell the running back what to do.” He added, ” Zeke’s like Yo Yo Dude, can you tell me the play,” referring to Cooper Rush who should have told his running back about the play.

Eli and Peyton have been associated with ESPN for their special Monday Night Football coverage since last season. The former players have signed a three-year deal with the television network for providing their analysis of 10 games each year. 

The show offers a unique take by two of the well-known quarterbacks of their era and guests are invited each week to talk about the sport. For Week 3, renowned comedian Tracy Morgan, NFL punter-turned-ESPN analyst Pat McAfee and ex-Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson are the guests for the show.

Johnson was the coach for the Cowboys when the team won their last Super Bowl in 1993.
