Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is poised to make his season debut in a remarkable comeback journey, nearly nine months after a terrifying on-field collapse that shook the NFL world. Hamlin’s return to the field is slated for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins at Highmark Stadium, a development reported by the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. This announcement coincided with the Bills ruling out safety Jordan Poyer due to a knee injury, opening the door for Hamlin’s return.

For the first three games of the season, Hamlin was designated as a healthy scratch, waiting for his opportunity to rejoin the lineup. If he steps onto the field on Sunday, it will mark the culmination of a remarkable recovery and comeback story.

Damar Hamlin’s journey to this point is a testament to his resilience. Last season, during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, he experienced a cardiac arrest after a chest injury sustained on the field. The situation was dire, leading to a game suspension as he was resuscitated on the field and subsequently transported to a local hospital.

Following the incident, Hamlin was transferred to a Buffalo hospital, where he made a swift recovery. Astonishingly, he was discharged just nine days later and even attended the Bills’ playoff game against the Bengals that same month. Hamlin received full medical clearance, allowing him to rejoin the team’s training sessions this summer. He participated in all three of the team’s preseason games, and since making the 53-man roster, he has eagerly awaited his return to the regular season.

During the 2021 season, Hamlin recorded 91 total tackles for the Bills, an impressive performance for a player drafted in the sixth round from the University of Pittsburgh. The 25-year-old is currently in the third year of his four-year, $3.6 million contract.

With Hamlin’s return, the Bills will receive a boost in their defensive lineup, particularly after a convincing 37-3 victory over the Washington Commanders last week. In Poyer’s absence due to a knee injury, safeties Taylor Rapp and Micah Hyde are expected to provide support, alongside Hamlin, as they face the Miami Dolphins. The Bills have historically dominated their matchups against the Dolphins, winning 11 of their last 13 encounters.
