D’Andre Swift was traded by the Detroit Lions to the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday. Dan Campbell and co, in return, reportedly received a fourth-round pick in 2025 and No 219 in the ongoing draft.

For Swift, the move is like homecoming. The star running back, who missed some part of the season last year due to injury, is from Philadelphia. He went to a high school at St Joseph’s Prep, which is not very far from Eagles’ home stadium Lincoln Financial Field.

The 24-year-old then played at Georgia before being picked in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

D’Andre Swift played 14 games in the 2022 season. He had 99 carries for 542 yards and five touchdowns. He missing three games due to ankle and shoulder injuries. Over three seasons, he has rushed for 1,680 yards and 18 touchdowns.

“Eagles’ RB D’Andre Swift is entering the last year of his contract that carries a $1.77 million base salary. If he leaves after this season, the Eagles likely would get back a compensatory draft pick in 2025 – the year in which they traded a 4th-round pick to Detroit for Swift,” NFL reporter Adam Schefter tweeted.

The financial details of the contract are not out yet.

Swift joins Rashaad Penny, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert and Jalen Hurts – making a formidable Philly offense.

“He’s got big-play ability as a runner and a receiver,” Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said on ESPN’s draft broadcast.

“We saw it firsthand when we were in Detroit the first game of the season [in 2022].”

Talking about his running backs, Roseman added: “We liked our running backs. We didn’t go into the draft feeling like this was the position we had to have, but we felt like this player was somebody who could really add to our culture and add to our team.”
