Winger Leroy Sane had the ball in Spain’s box. Final seconds of the game and the German star could have won it for Germany but the 26-year-old decided to go around Spanish goalkeeper Simon, who ensured his opponents settled for a corner.

Germany and Spain drew 1-1 in their Group E game at the Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday.

Did Sane miss a golden chance? The winger should have taken a shot? Fans speculated after the game.

“Leroy Sane had a chance to win the match for Germany in the final seconds 🤒 #Ger #FIFAWorldCup,” a Twitter user said.

“leroy sane legit said “nah im not taking the last shot” and just went straight past the goalkeeper,” a second one said.

” Leroy #Sane could have scored the WINNER for Germany from here, but he kept the ball too long rather than shooting and wasted an opportunity! What a miss from a player like him!!”, regretted another user.

After the real time 90 minutes of the match, both Germany and Spain came close to scoring goals in the 6 minutes injury time. At the fag end of the match, Bayern Munich FC’s 26 year old winger Leroy Sane came very close to a goal. While Sane raced ahead with the ball with no one other than the Spanish goalie to stop him in his pursuit, he took the ball more to the left rather than attempt a direct shot, went further long and finally played the shot, only to be stopped in time.

While German fans were upset at the missed chance, their situation looked grimmer just 15 mins before, with Spain leading 1-0 and only 10 mins left in real time. However, a timely thrust by Nicklas Fullkrug ensured that Germany equalised the score. The match ended 1-1 and Germay remains in contention with another game to go with Costa Rica.
