DJ Moore tweeted a surprised emoji after his trade to the Chicago Bears was confirmed on Friday. For the wide receiver, the Carolina Panthers got 2023 No. 9 overall pick, 2023 second-round pick, 2024 first-round pick and a 2025 second-round pick.

The move from Panthers can be seen as their way to get a star quarterback, probably Bryce Young, in the 2023 Draft. The team struggled with their QBs in 2022. They named Baker Mayfield as a starter but then traded him in the 13th week. Sam Darnold and PJ Walker struggled. Carolina registered a 7-10 record.

For the Bears, DJ Moore adds depth to their wide receiver chart.

Moore’s reaction to the trade:

Chicago also got the Panthers’ first-round pick, No. 9 overall; the 61st pick; another first-rounder in 2024 and a second-rounder in 2025.

Panthers General Manager Scott Fitterer, when speaking about potentially moving up in the draft at the combine last week, said, “You go get the guy that you want, you know. If you have a conviction on a guy, you go get him. It’s pretty simple that way. If you don’t know and you’re going to give all these resources to go up and get it, you’re hurting your team in the long run. You better be right. You better have conviction if you do move up. When you do that, you’re all in.”

Moore had 364 catches and 21 touchdowns in his first five NFL seasons. He has had three 1000-yard seasons from 2019 to 2021. He had a career high 7 touchdowns in 2022.

The Chicago Bears were 3-14 last season.

The 2023 NFL Draft will take place on April 27-29 in Kansas City, Missouri.
