England cricket captain Eoin Morgan was on Thursday ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series against India due to hand injury. Morgan sustained a split webbing between his right hand’s thumb and index finger during the opening match against India on Tuesday. The injury required four stitches, reported AFP.

The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed on Thursday that vice-captain Jos Buttler will be leading the team in the last two ODIs.  

Morgan declared himself unfit for the remaining encounters after undergoing a fielding drill during the training match at MCA Stadium on Thursday.

“I
had the hand re-dressed before the start of training today but it quickly
became apparent that I found myself protecting the injury and getting into the
wrong positions to catch the ball,” said Morgan in an ECB statement.

“There’s
nowhere to hide on the field in international cricket, especially hen it comes to limited-over formats like these, so it was not a tough decision to make to myself unavailable for the remaining matches,” said Morgan

As far as the series is concerned, England lost the the opening  match of the three-match ODI series against India on Tuesday by 66 runs.
