Ron Rivera, head coach for the Washington Commanders, had a heated talk with the referees after his side was handed a two-point conversion penalty against the New York Giants on Sunday. The two teams locked horns at the FedEx Field.
Washington decided to go for a two-point conversion after Jehan Dotson’s brilliant run for a touchdown. However, an offensive pass interference call derailed their try.
“Ron Rivera has every right to be mad at the call on the 2-point conversion play,” a Twitter user said.
“NFL refs are doing awful in this Sunday night football game. 2 helmet to helmet no calls, 2 point conversation penalty was a bad call,” another one said.
“2 point call was bullshit. Pretty devastating outcome and sequence after getting just a gasp of air. 14-9 is still a huge mountain. Gonna need a turnover on D,” a third one added.
Some said Rivera shouldn’t have opted for the two-point conversion.
“Ron Rivera he’s a good coach I like him. Somebody tell me why the hell he just went for 2 with 8 minutes to go in the 3rd only down 5. Team gets a penalty and miss the extra point anyway. That’s bad coaching I’m sorry, going for 2 in that point of the game changes nothing!” a social media user said.
“Ron Rivera was dumb for going for 2. Kick the extra point. Stop chasing points,” another one added.
The New York Giants beat the Washington Commanders 20-12 to bolster their playoff chances and hurt those of a rival. The loss, just the Commanders’ second in nine games, puts them in a tougher spot but keeps them in a playoff position, half a game up on Seattle and Detroit.
