English fans booed their team after the disappointing draw. With the result, Harry Kane and co still hold the top-spot in Group B, thanks to their 6-goal thrashing vs Iran. However, experts and former players pointed out at several tactical errors manager Gareth Southgate made on Friday.

“Boos from the England fans at full-time. Not a great performance,” a Twitter user said.

“Days after smashing Iran 6-2, the England fans boo their team off the pitch after a draw that ensures they remain top of their group,” a second one added.

“I can’t remember ever hearing an England team get boo’d at a World Cup,” a third one said.

“Boos from England fans is 100% justified. England have been pathetic!” another one added.

Star mid-fielder Phil Foden was kept on bench for the entire game, even as Mason Mount struggled on the field. Harry Kane did not get enough assists in the penalty box to convert into scores.

The Three Lions only made only three shots on target while having 56% possession.

“It was exactly the sort of game I thought it would be. A good opponent who were very athletic. I knew it would be difficult after such a high to replicate that type of performance, so I’m really pleased how the players applied themselves. Some of the quality in the final third could have been a little bit better, but we’ve shown great resilience to defend against opponents who kept asking questions,” Southgate said after the match.
