Fans were ecstatic after recently promoted Brentford FC managed to achieve a 3-3 draw against title contenders Liverpool on Saturday. Riding on Yoane Wissa’s late strike, the Bees established that they are no pushovers in the top English tier.

“We went toe to toe with one of the best teams in the country,” Brentford manager Thomas Frank said after the game.

Brentford’s Ethan Pinnock broke the deadlock in the 27th minute, which was followed by Liverpool’s response, a goal, just four minutes later. The 2019 champions then saw Mohamed Salah blast them into the lead, scoring his 100th goal for the Reds. Soon after Janelt equalised for the Bees, Liverpool’s Curtis Jones found the back of the net, bringing the score line to 3-2 with 13 minutes of game time. Wissa, who had been subbed in late, chipped one over Alisson to seal a draw.

Brentford are now undefeated for eight consecutive games across competitions.

While fans did talk about Thomas Frank and company’s resilience, Liverpool’s lackluster defence was criticised.

“What a game of Football. Had a feeling it would be special. This Brentford team are fantastic. Commitment, quality, heart. A reflection of their charismatic manager. Liverpool had big chances to go 3pts clear. They played some lovely stuff, but unusually brittle at the back,” a social media user said.

“Disappointing result but credit to Brentford, they played some brilliant stuff. Cracking game of football and the reds are still top of the league!” another one tweeted.

Juergen Klopp’s side was unable to reap the maximum profit from slip-ups by Manchester United and Chelsea earlier in the day as it shared the points with Brentford in early-evening entertainment in west London.

Instead Liverpool moved just one point clear at the top, while preserving the top flight’s only remaining unbeaten record.
