On August 15, FIFA suspended the All India Football Federation with “immediate effect due to undue influence from third parties”.

The decision will jeopardize India’s staging of the U-17 Women’s World Cup in October. FIFA mentioned that the suspension will remain in place until the All India Football Federation (AIFF) regains full control of its daily affairs.

“The suspension will be lifted once an order to set up a committee of administrators to assume the powers of the AIFF executive committee has been repealed and the AIFF administration regains full control of the AIFF’s daily affairs,” FIFA said in a statement.

Reacting to the suspension, Indian sports journalist Boria Majumdar tweeted, “The suspension of the AIFF by FIFA was being spoken about for a while now: hope a positive outcome can come out of the discussions that are currently on and the suspension is revoked soon. Fate of the U17 World Cup is on the line otherwise”.
