Football commentator Peter Drury, loved by football fans in the English-speaking world for his poetic style, will be on the mic as Lionel Messi and Luka Modric, two veterans of the game, clash for a place in the final of the Qatar World Cup 2022. 

Ahead of the match, BBC football journalist George Addo Jnr got a glimpse of what is going through the 55-year-old’s mind as one of the biggest games of the tournament is set to begin.

When asked about the semi-finals in general, Drury, who is from England, said that he will be rooting for a Morocco win. 

“I know how excited we are or the semi-final, Morocco especially. I hope that one goes well for Africa,” he was seen saying.

When asked what is going through his mind as he prepares for the Argentina-Croatia game, Drury said: “Through my mind now is just to feel the moment when it comes.”

Drury has been the voice behind several iconic moments in the FIFA World Cup 2022. As Morcoo became the first African team ever to reach a FIFA World Cup semi-final by beating Portugal, Drury paid an unforgettable tribute to the Moroccans for the feat.

“Drink it in Casablanca, relish it Rabat, this is your night. See it from atop the Atlas Mountains, all above the Marrakech express, a night Morocco will never forget,” he said as the final whistle blew at Al Thumama Stadium with Portugal failing to equalise the only goal scored by Morocco.
