Chelsea fans are worried. Frank Lampard and co were defeated by Brighton on Saturday and are 12 points clear of relegation. Playing at the Stamford Bridge, they lost 2-1.

Now, Chelsea are 11th on the Premier League table with 10 wins and 12 losses in 31 games. All top 15 teams have at least 30 points. The bottom three teams – out of 20 – are relegated every year.

The Blues were last relegated in 1987-88.

On Saturday, Julio Enciso scored a long-range goal for Brighton in the 69th minute to hand the visitors the win after Danny Welbeck equalised by converting a Pascal Gross cross in the 42nd minute. Chelsea scored the first goal when academy graduate Conor Gallagher had scored from the edge of the box.

Lampard, who had coached Chelsea in the past, took on an interim role after Graham Potter was fired. The 44-year-old manager rested the team’s several starters ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid.

Frank Lampard has now lost three games in a row.

“It was the most deserved one. I think at the moment, more than defeats, it’s performance we’ve got to talk about. Wins only come with performance. In terms of performance that was the most disappointing one because we were well beaten in the basics of football. It’s a really good Brighton team so we must give them a lot of a credit because they’re a fantastic team and they can perform like that against pretty much anyone in the league,” he said after the match.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly appeared to clash with fans after his side’s loss on Saturday.

Images on social media showed the American tycoon engaged in a through-and-fro with fans. Chelsea supporters have been disappointed especially because the team is failing to fire despite all the big money spent in the window.
