Gerard Pique has announced his retirement from Barcelona. The 35-year-old footballer, who has won numerous trophies with the Catalan club, announced his decision in a video he uploaded on Instagram.

Pique’s last game will be the La Liga match against Almeira.

Pique also said that there will be no club after Barcelona, and that he will pass on his love for the Blaugrana to his children.

However, he also stated that this is not the end of his story with Barcelona, his childhood club. The Barcelona number 3 stated in the video, “You know me, sooner or later I will be back. I’ll see you at Camp Nou. Long live Barca. Always.”

The World Cup-winning defender has been going through a tough time recently owing to his divorce from pop singer Shakira.

Pique was born in Barcelona and learned the basics of the game from the club’s youth academy, La Masia, which has also been the home of club legends like Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, and Xavi.

After his tenure with the youth academy, Pique went on to play for Manchester United, and also won the Premier League and the Champions League with the Red Devils. He, however, did not get much match time owing to United’s solid defensive pair of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

Pique was later brought back to Barcelona, where he played 396 matches for the club and won three Champions League titles with them.
